"Stay-cation" Sunday! - Part 1
We’ve been back from Europe for about a month, and we were missing that feeling of being on holiday. Sitting on the couch, sipping our Sunday morning coffee, we decided: why not have a “stay-cation” day...even better let's do a “Stay-cation” Sunday!
We did a little Open Table Yelping, and found the perfect spot on Abbot Kinney, in Venice Beach, CA, called Salt Air to start our trip. The restaurant is located on the southeast end of Abbot Kinney, closest to Venice Blvd. The decor had a beachy bistro vibe, and the place was full of brunchers looking to enjoy their Sunday.

Brunch at Salt Air was so delicious! The place had great options for the whole family. The menu ranged from raw bar dishes, to unique tartines, with standard brunch fare like french toast thrown in as well. One call out though, Salt Air only has beer and wine, so if you are looking for more of a hard boozy brunch you may be disappointed.
Jason and I sipped on mimosas, and then shared the oysters, pea tartine and trout toast. The pea tartine was by far my favorite. To paraphrase or waiter, “If avocado toast was french it would be this dish.” It was sweet, salty, and tangy. The crisp snow peas offered some great crunch, while the lemon balanced the whole thing out. I’ll definitely be coming back for this one again.
My daughters ordered the hamburger and lobster roll. I know what you guys are thinking, lobster roll for the kids, really! Here’s the thing, Maddie has always been a finicky eater, and I’ll pay a little extra if I know it will go down (I know you guys have been there too). I have to say, the roll did not disappoint - I could barely get one bite of it before she devoured it. It came on a thick piece of brioche toast, split in the middle, and was stuffed with creamy - cold - seafoody - sweet lobster salad. To quote Maddie, “it was amazing!”
